VCT 2023 Ascension Pacific: Orangutan Eliminated Without Winning a Single Series

The most dominant Valorant team from South Asia, Orangutan has been eliminated from the ongoing VCT 2023 Ascension Pacific which is scheduled to take place from 28^th June to 9^th July.

Orangutan was the champion of both VCL 2023 South Asia Split 1 and VCL 2023 South Asia Split 2, not losing a single series across both tournaments, a historic feat in itself. Despite the regional accolades, the team fell flat against international competitors losing all its group stage matches in succession.

The dismal performance resulted in Orangutan’s early elimination from the tournament, standing at the bottom of Group Omega and becoming the only team to not win a single series during its entire run.

There was a certain level of performance that was expected from Orangutan on the international stage after the community witnessed a flawless run from the side during its regional encounters.

Unfortunately, the team was not able to play and function at its peak in Bangkok, Thailand, with its champion overseas duo, Azis “azys” Nandang and Jm “tesseract” Ignacio, not being able to find their rhythm and consistency.

Orangutan definitely came close to defeating teams like Bleed Esports and Dplus Esports, managing to win two maps out of the 10 that they played in total. However, in the end, it just remained a valiant effort as the Indian organization failed to mount any successful comebacks.

As a result of this loss, Orangutan has been eliminated from the tournament and becomes the only qualified team in VCT 2023 Ascension Pacific to finish the tournament without a single series win, placing not just at the bottom of Group Omega but the entire competition.

The players were also disappointed with the outcome but they were already fired up to work hard and return stronger. The team’s captain, Antidote, thanked everyone for supporting, criticizing, and hating on them, accepting that they all failed as individuals.

“This tournament will only make us strong if we stay in good mental. As athletes we always try to get up when we are down. Will do that again,” said Antidote.

Other members of the team also had similar sentiments to share as their hopes of making it to the international stage halt for now. The tournament continues ahead with NAOS Esports, BOOM Esports, and Fancy United having qualified to the Playoffs. Now, only three more slots remain to be filled out with four teams still in contention.
