Apex Legends Adds Software to Stop Leaks
The Apex Legends developers have had to deal with several leaks in the last few seasons. A major leak happened in March this year which revealed nine new legends currently in development (including Newcastle and the latest Legend release Vantage) along with a new Battle Royale map and two new Arena maps. Respawn seems to have taken concrete steps towards plugging these leaks which spoil all the fun and anticipation of new Legends and content. A Twitter account linked to many of these leaks called AG420, who was said to be behind the March leak took to twitter talking about a new software added in a recent update to stop leaks.
Leakers seem to be stopped by Apex’s new anti-cheat Hyperion
AG420 not only leaked content which had been added to the game files, like dataminers do, but also builds in the game. AG420 also ended up steaming some of the content coming to Season 13 before it went live on the game. Apex developers have now added the anti-tamper tech Hyperion back to Apex Legends’ Steam version.
For the time being, however, it looks like season 14 leaks will have to wait. Some of this might be due to a change in Apex’s anti-tamper and anti-cheat systems. A program called “Hyperion” was added to the game a week ago, which made life more difficult for several leakers and insiders who were used to showing off unreleased content.
According to their website, Hyperion gives developers ‘anti-reverse engineering and anti-tamper protection’ that stops ‘intellectual property theft in its tracks’. Apex Legends Developers aren’t the first ones to add (or rather re-add) Hyperion to their games. Earlier in July, Epic Games also added Hyperion to protect its most popular IP, Fortnite.
If things go as intentioned, it looks like fans will have to wait for new content till it goes live in the game. However, the Apex developers will have to do more than focus on leakers like AG420 and put a stopper on internal slip ups. Apex Legends Season 14 Hunted will go live on 9th August.
