Dota 2 Analyst and Streamer BSJ to Skip TI12

Prominent Dota 2 analyst, streamer, and Team Liquid content creator, Brian “BSJ” Canavan, has announced his decision to not attend The International 2023 (TI12) as a spectator. During a recent Twitch stream, fans were quick to notice a message from the streamer. Viewers promptly screenshotted the message and then posted it to Reddit. A Reddit post by u/YourBoyR shared the screenshot of the message that appeared on the stream from BSJ’s Moobot. This ignited a wave of speculations and rumors in the community, prompting BSJ to respond.

BSJ Clears the Air Regarding his TI12 Attendance

BSJ’s insights and analysis have always been valued by the Dota 2 community. He recently took to social media to share the news with his followers and fans that he has decided not to attend The International 2023 and explained his decision in detail.

During the Twitch live stream on 2nd October 2023, when viewers entered the prompt “!ti”, they received a message from Moobot that stated: “I did not get invited to TI this year as an analyst and have decided not to attend as a spectator.”

This development comes after BSJ voluntarily stepped back from talent work after The International 10 (TI10). Following this, he was not invited to participate in a talent capacity at TI11. He clarified that he did not refuse the invitation to TI11 but rather was not extended one.

While BSJ stated that he did not expect to receive an invitation to TI12, he acknowledged that there was a possibility due to his significant involvement in talent work over the years. Notably, BSJ was a part of the talent team during the Dota 2 mega event including, but not limited to, TI8, TI9, and TI10.

BSJ urged fans and fellow Dota 2 enthusiasts not to direct blame towards Valve, the organizer of The International, for his exclusion. He also discouraged negative remarks or criticism towards those who received invitations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive and respectful atmosphere within the community.

The streamer expressed his appreciation for the supportive comments he received from fans. Many praised BSJ’s contributions to the Dota 2 community and noted that his analytical prowess will be missed.

What’s Next for BSJ?

In addressing this recent speculation, BSJ clarified that he had not intended to create drama or controversy with the bot command on his Twitch stream. He said, “I didn’t make that bot command to create drama. I was just getting asked a lot if I was going.”

While BSJ lamented the likely end of his TI analyst chapter, he recorded his unwavering love for Dota 2. He also expressed his commitment to continue being an active part of the community, irrespective of his participation in The International events.
