Emerson v Romero Cup of Champions Showdown SBC imminent as Italy take on Argentina

The Team of the Season (TOTS) promo has taken FIFA 22 Ultimate Team by storm, with the biggest campaign of the year rolling out regular top content.

The Ligue 1 TOTS is now taking centre stage, bringing us plenty of awesome SBC and Objectives cards that can be unlocked for free.

We’ve already seen a UEFA Champions League Showdown SBC and the content just keeps on coming, with a UEFA / CONMEBOL Cup of Champions Showdown SBC set to arrive soon.

Check out the two leaked Showdown cards below and find out how you can potentially unlock them for your FUT 22 squad.

The Cup of Champions Showdown

UEFA EURO 2020 winners Italy will take on Copa America victors Argentina in the Cup of Champions, or ‘Finalissima’.

Italy booked their place by claiming the European crown last summer, defeating England on penalties in the Wembley final for their second continental title.

Argentina ended a 28-year wait for a trophy by winning the 2021 Copa América, beating Brazil 1-0 in the decider to clinch a record-equalling 15th Copa América title.

According to the reliable FUT Sheriff, Totthenam Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero and Lyon left-back Emerson will be the players getting Showdown SBC cards ahead of this fixture.

We expect both players to be handed Showdown cards in the region of 90-93 OVR, with the potential for a further +2 OVR, depending on the outcome of the match.

SBC Requirements

The Cup of Champions match between Argentina and Italy will take place on Wednesday, 1 June.

We expect the two Showdown SBCs to be released on Sunday, 29 May, giving you a few days to decide which team and player you want to back for the final.

We will no doubt see EA hand two huge ratings to the finalists in order to stay in line with the power curve of Ultimate Team.

So, we could see these SBCs come in at a hefty price, perhaps with two squads of 85 and 87 overall ratings required.

How do Showdown cards work?

FIFA 22 Showdown SBCs are a very simple, but very clever concept, that relies on real-world footballing fixtures and results to determine upgrades to cards.

To start off, 2 cards are released as Showdown SBCs for a limited time for an upcoming fixture, usually pitting two relatively equally matched teams against each other that have an interesting or important fixture upcoming.

FUT players can complete both SBCs if they wish if the cards are heavily upgraded from their base versions, or they can ‘bet’ on which team they think will win the fixture by completing their SBC in hope of a further upgrade.

Once the SBC expires and the game is played, the Showdown SBC cards receive upgrades based on the result of the fixture.

For the team that wins the fixture, the corresponding Showdown SBC card in-game will receive a +2 OVR Upgrade, further boosting the card to new heights, while the card from the team that lost will remain the same rating.

If the fixture results in a draw, then both cards will receive a +1 OVR Upgrade.
