FIFA 23 EFL TOTS: English youngsters set for MASSIVE upgrades
The end of the 2022/23 EFL season is fast approaching, with teams vying for promotion, battling it out for a place in the playoffs, and fighting to avoid relegation. It’s been a gruelling campaign for EFL players, but soon, the best performers will be rewarded with a place in the EFL TOTS in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team.
As usual, the conclusion of the domestic football season brings excitement to FUT through the Team of the Season event, with voting for various teams already underway and the Community TOTS and Eredivisie TOTS squads hitting packs!
Looking ahead, we’re anticipating the emergence of hidden gems from the EFL TOTS squad. Here are our top picks for the players that deserve to make the cut in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team.
EFL TOTS
While the EFL TOTS may not be the most anticipated release in FUT 23, there are sure to be some fantastic new items released. The added bonus is that they will be cheap as chips in comparison to players of similar quality from the major leagues, so you may be able to find yourself a bargain baller.
Last year, Fulham duo Aleksandar Mitrovic and Harry Wilson headlined the team with 94 OVR and 93 OVR items respectively. England youngsters Dominic Solanke and Djed Spence also made the cut with brilliant upgrades too!
In total, 15 players were selected in the EFL TOTS, and we expect the same to be released on Tuesday, 25 April. If you want to know what is coming, take a look at which TOTS league is next.
Freddie Woodman (OVR 89)
Preston is a side allergic to conceding goals and Freddie Woodman has been at the heart of that success. Keeping 17 clean sheets this season, Woodman has conceded 56 goals at the time of writing and has been a key part of one of the Championship’s best defences for most of the season.
Formerly of Newcastle United, Woodman is now enjoying the best form of his career at Deepdale.
Other contenders:
- Michael Cooper
- Christian Walton
- Ben Wilson
Bali Mumba (OVR 87)
Plymouth has been somewhat of a surprise package in League One this season, with loan stars like Bali Mumba proving key in their push towards Championship football.
The Pilgrims have battled hard to secure promotion with Ipswich, with full-back Mumba proving to be a real spark. Scoring in vital moments and helping Plymouth on their way, Mumba will no doubt play a key role for parent club Norwich City next season.
Other contenders:
- Wes Burns
- Connor Roberts
- George Baldock
Carl Piergianni (OVR 88)
Stevenage has secured League One football next season and their defensive general has been a key part of their success this season.
Piergianni may be a new name to many but this sturdy head is enjoying his best season and is more than worthy of a place in the EFL Team of the Season in FIFA 23. A dominating figure who would be almost unstoppable with 99 Physicality, we want to see this League Two star rewarded.
Other contenders:
- Darragh Lenihan
- Dan Scarr
- Liam Lindsay
Jake Cooper (OVR 89)
Millwall is known for always having a trusted defensive general in their backline and Jake Cooper has been that man this season. His stats may not be too impressive, but there’s no doubt that this man has been one of the best defenders in England’s second tier.
Still trying to secure a play-off spot, Cooper could be key in any potential success for the Lions this season.
Other contenders:
- Dom Hyam
- Taylor Harwood-Bellis
- Oli Hawkins
Leif Davis (OVR 89)
By all metrics, there hasn’t been a better left-back than Leif Davis in the Football League.
The former Leeds United man has showcased his class in League One this season, helping the Tractor Boys to boast some of the best team statistics in the entire Football League.
Nominated as part of the Community Team of the Season and a certainty for the full EFL team, Leif Davis deserves to be recognised in FIFA 23.
Other contenders:
- Ryan Giles
- Ian Maatsen
- Ibou Touray
Sam Morsy (OVR 88)
From one Ipswich player to another, with Egyptian Skipper Sam Morsy proving to be one of the most consistent players in the EFL.

With one more game to go, Morsy could be the man lifting the League One title at the end of the season.
Other contenders:
- Jack Taylor
- Josh Scowen
- Lee Evans
Alex Scott (OVR 89)
He may not be fully deserving of a place in this team but EFL breakout star Alex Scott may just make the cut. A FIFA 23 Wonderkid with the world at his feet, Scott has showcased his talent for all the world to see.
With Scott set for a big move in the summer, don’t be surprised if he’s given a major upgrade at the end of the season.
Other contenders:
- Elliott Watt
- Ilias Chair
- Iliman Ndiaye
Josh Brownhill (OVR 92)
Burnley has been the best side in the entire Football League and their consistency across the board has been staggering.

A superb midfielder who has showcased his class this season, Brownhill will no doubt be rewarded in the FIFA 23 EFL Team of the Season.
Other contenders:
- Barry Bannan
- Aaron Collins
- Albie Morgan
Nathan Tella (OVR 92)
Sticking with Burnley, Nathan Tella has been a real star in the Championship this season and his record this campaign has been nothing short of phenomenal.
A major part of Burnley’s success this season, Tella is certain to dominate in the Premier League next season. His FIFA 23 Team of the Season card would be quite something and we can’t wait to use it.
Other contenders:
- Tom Bradshaw
- David McGoldrick
- Colby Bishop
Chuba Akpom (OVR 93)
Chuba Akpom has been revitalised since the arrival of Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough and the dominant forward is set to be rewarded with a major Team of the Season boost in FIFA 23.

Other contenders:
- Viktor Gyokeres
- Carlton Morris
- Joel Piroe
Jonson Clarke-Harris (OVR 90)
From the Championship’s top scorer to one of League One’s top marksmen, it’s no surprise that Jonson Clarke-Harris could once again make the cut.
Posh captain Clarke-Harris is once again set to lead the line in this team, although Peterborough fans may not have savoured this season, Clarke-Harris is certain to remember it well.
Other contenders:
- Connor Chaplin
- Andy Cook
- Sam Hoskins
