Helldivers 2: Extra Padding Explained

Helldivers 2 is a dive into the futuristic world where you unite with other players to fight off aliens. It is an intense war between Terminid and Automatons, but Helldivers step in to save the Super Earth from these two monstrosities. When fighting off your enemies, you will need extra protection on the battlefield. While the weapons in Helldivers 2 are extremely lethal, sometimes, defense is more crucial than offense.

This is where Extra Padding steps in. Extra Padding is a passive effect in Helldivers 2 that helps players protect themselves from the attacks of their enemies. In this article, we’ll help you understand what Extra Padding is.

Helldivers 2: Extra Padding Explained

Extra Padding in Helldivers 2 is a passive stat that provides players with an additional layer of defense against explosive damage, such as grenades and landmines. It is automatically embedded in the standard body armor that is available at the beginning of the game.

While the extra padding does not alter the armor rating, it significantly reduces the damage taken from explosive threats. This, in turn, enhances the player’s survivability in volatile situations.

Even though Extra Padding is extremely helpful against explosions, it cannot protect you from getting shot or hit in close combat. So, you still need to be careful with your combat strategy. Keep in mind that while it’s good for explosions, it is not as strong as other armor when it comes to taking hits from guns or melee attacks.

Is Extra Padding Actually Useful?

Extra Padding is a passive stat available since the beginning of the game. However, being a passive stat, many don’t believe that extra padding has any actual benefit in the game. Many fans speculate that Extra Padding could be a playful jab from the game creators, Arrowhead. It is believed that the extra padding is meant to highlight the disposable nature of Helldivers in Super Earth’s eyes.

If a Helldiver gets knocked out, another quickly steps in, sent down in their Hellpod to keep going with the mission.

Since extra padding is a default feature, many are unable to believe that it actually works.

Well… Does it Work?

Extra Padding actually helps you withstand explosive attacks better. While it cannot protect you against explosive attacks in close quarters, it can provide an extra layer of protection. Direct contact with explosions, grenades and other weapons will definitely eliminate you from the game.
