LCS 2022 Summer Split: Start Date, Format, Teams & Predictions

Following a chaotic League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) 2022 Spring Split that saw Evil Geniuses crowned as champions for the first time, North America will look to find its best representatives for the 2022 World Championship.

The best way to do that is with the LCS 2022 Summer Split, where not only will Evil Geniuses look to defend their title after qualifying for MSI 2022, but teams like Team Liquid and Cloud9 will look to return to their former glory.

Here’s what the LCS 2022 Summer Split has in store for fans.

LCS 2022 Summer Split Start Date

According to an official post by Riot Games, the LCS 2022 Summer Split kicks off on Friday, June 17, 2022, with its first Superweek.

The LCS 2022 Summer Split will run until Saturday, August 20, 2022, when the playoffs begin.

LCS 2022 Summer Split Format

The LCS 2022 Summer Split will consist of an eight-week double round-robin, with five games on Saturday and Sunday. Weeks 1 and 8 will be the designated Superweeks. These two Superweeks will see teams play five additional games on Fridays.

At the end of Week 8, the top eight teams of the LCS 2022 Summer Split regular season will advance to the LCS Summer Playoffs.

The playoffs will adhere to the previous split’s format. This means a double-elimination bracket for the top six seeds with the top two teams from the regular season earning first-round byes, and a single-elimination clash for the seventh and eighth seeds.

The first seed will be able to choose which side of the bracket to play through once Week 8 concludes.

Once the LCS Champion is crowned, they will be joined by the 2nd and 3rd place teams as North America’s representatives at the 2022 World Championship.

LCS 2022 Summer Split Teams

Thanks to franchising, the same ten teams will be back to compete in the LCS 2022 Summer Split.

These teams are:

  • 100 Thieves
  • Counter Logic Gaming
  • Cloud9
  • Dignitas
  • Evil Geniuses
  • FlyQuest
  • Golden Guardians
  • Immortals
  • Team Liquid
  • Team SoloMid

However, unlike the Spring Split, some of these teams will be looking quite different after some roster changes heading into the Summer.

LCS 2022 Midseason Roster Changes

Although there weren’t many midseason roster changes in the LCS this season, the moves made could be considered fairly significant.

Teams like Cloud9 and Immortals took their previous split’s performances to heart and went big while teams like Team SoloMid, Golden Guardians, and Dignitas decided to make only one change.

Cloud9 put their now former mid-laner Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami back in the top lane and welcomed back mid-laner Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen”, and Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen, this time in the support role.

Immortals on the other hand welcomed three new players, jungler Shane Kenneth “Kenvi” Espinoza, ADC Lawrence “Lost” Sze Yuy Hui, and support Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun.

Dignitas welcomed back top laner Noh “Gamsu” Yeong-jin, while Golden Guardians put former positional coach Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes back in the ADC position.

Lastly, Team SoloMid shocked the entire league by bringing in former LMS superstar mid-laner Huang “Maple” Yi-Tang.

LCS 2022 Summer Split Predictions

The LCS is always fierce competition, but it’s clear there are some teams that are simply a cut above the rest. These include Evil Geniuses, 100 Thieves, Team Liquid, and Cloud9.

It’s safe to say that one of these teams will most likely see yet another LCS crown in the 2022 Summer Split.

Of the bunch, we expect Team Liquid will rise to the occasion for another Split victory this time around.

Team Liquid showed glimpses of their potential quality by first winning the LCS 2022 Lock-In tournament. This was later followed up with massive performances in the Spring Split playoffs before falling to the eventual winners, Evil Geniuses.

The Spring Split was a painful lesson for this current Team Liquid roster, and we expect that will help them push to make something special out of the Summer Split, securing the trophy in the end.
