New leagues, teams, and stadiums could arrive in FIFA 23
There is still plenty of time before the release of FIFA 23, but work will already be going on behind the scenes ahead of the new game.
New leagues, teams, and stadiums are always exciting in any edition of the game, and we could see a few more added to the franchise later this year.
Keep reading for all you need to know about the FIFA 23 Licenses.
Latest – Cross-play test confirmed
EA has revealed little to nothing about the upcoming FIFA 23 which is expected to launch around Friday, 30 September 2022 based on the release schedule of last year’s game.
However, we now know that cross-play testing will commence in FIFA 22 in the near future.
In the announcement, EA revealed the game modes that will be available during the testing, as well as the platforms involved too.
FIFA License
Will they? Won’t they? EA has been battling with Konami for various licenses, but now they are at loggerheads with FIFA themselves!
For a while it has looked like EA will be parting ways with FIFA, meaning that the current game, FIFA 22, could be the last in the franchise.
VGC has reported the latest news to come out from the situation, involving EA CEO Andrew Wilson telling staff that FIFA has been “an impediment”, with the company looking to bigger and brighter things by ending their relationship.
There was also more details around the next potential EA/FIFA game reported by VGC, meaning there could be one last hurrah for the pair.
Things have settled down on that front for now, but we could see the game change its name to something like EA Sports FC as EA has moved to patent the name already.
Whatever the game will be called, we are sure to see plenty of improvements from EA as they look to build on their record-breaking release of FIFA 22.
Ultimate Team will likely be the focus once again, although EA has spent more time renovating Career Mode with the new create-a-club mode a big hit among fans.
Release Date
With the next game such a long way off we won’t see an official release date for many months, but we always have a rough idea of when the game will arrive.
FIFA 22 was fully launched on Friday, 1 October 2021, so if EA follows the same trend, then Friday, 30 September 2022 could be our FIFA 23 release date.
As the game goes live before that (early access/Web App) we will likely see the new player ratings revealed in the month leading up to release.
Watch out for the return of the ‘Ratings Collective’ as they will no doubt be sharing their work on social media as the hype towards launch builds.
New additions
EA added a total of five new stadiums to FIFA 22, but which grounds could we see brought to the game in 2022?
Blackburn Rovers are in the mix for promotion from the Championship, and if that happens then we will see Ewood Park added next season!
Ewood Park has a capacity of over 30,000 so it is one of the biggest in the Football League and would be a welcome addition to FIFA 23.
Aside from the grounds, we would love to see the Brazilian league finally licensed in the game, but we aren’t holding out much hope!
ENTIRE league lost
The first blow in the licensing battle has been struck by Konami, with an exclusive deal meaning the league will be removed from the FIFA franchise.
News of licenses being lost and exclusive deals ending have surfaced, leaving us wondering how many more teams and leagues we might lose.
Konami has been busy securing deals for eFootball, and the latest exclusive deal will mean EA cannot feature the league at all next season.
No more exclusivity in Milan
Licensing has never really been an issue for EA and the FIFA franchise as they dominate that market, but recently they have hit some trouble!
Konami has put up a real fight in Serie A, already claiming five (four in FIFA 22) clubs and forcing EA to go alternative in names.
EA did secure both Milan clubs on exclusive deals not long ago, but after just two seasons the deal with AC Milan is coming to an end.
Does this mean we will have another unlicensed Italian club in FIFA 23?
