New Region Portals in TFT Set 9.5 Horizonbound Explained

Region Portals in Teamfight Tactics (TFT) date back to Set 3 Galaxies where Riot Games used this mechanic to spice up the game. Region Portals drastically change your strategy in every game of TFT, keeping the games dynamic and you thinking on your feet.

Region Portals replaced the opening carousel of the game and instead, now players vote for one among the three portals on the ground. These portals correspond to a special rule that’s added to the current lobby.

The game will randomly select one player or their little legend, and the game will commence from the Region Portal they are standing on.

Having said all that, Teamfight Tactics Set 9.5 Runeterra Reforged: Horizonbound is bringing new Region Portals from Ixtal, Bilgewater and even Freljord.

Here’s all you need to know about them.

TFT Set 9.5 Horizonbound’s New Region Portals

Apart from the already existing portals in Set 9, Set 9.5 Horizonbound is added more unique ones from the regions of Bilgewater, Ixtal, and even Freljord.

Freljord has only one region portal and let’s dive right into it first:

Valar’s Hollow: In Valar’s Hollow, you’ll gain an Item Anvil on 2-3 and a Support Anvil on 3-3. The support anvil is part of the new item changes that are coming to the game in Set 9.5.

Region Portals of Bilgewater

Riot Games noted that Bilgewater Region Portals are all about shopping. Here are the region portals:

Finn’s Market

Round 3-7 is replaced by a visit to Bilgewater Trader Finn, who will stock either completed, artifact, support, or radiant items. You can choose one to keep for free.

Slaughter Docks

You will gain free shop rerolls equal to the stage number plus one at the start of each stage. Players should note that these only last for the round you get them, so they will have to star up units and form their comps.

Rat Town

Starting in Stage 2, Lucky Shops can appear randomly at the start of a round once per stage. These shops will feature units tailored to the player’s army’s active traits. While there are no discounts, players will be able to save money by not spending on rerolls.

Ryze, Realm Warp: Bilgewater

In Bilgewater, Ryze creates a portal and summons a giant treasure chest to fall from the sky on the largest cluster of enemies. This will deal magic damage to enemies within two hexes. Notably, the size of the chest is increased by the gold you have. So if you have more money, you can do more damage to your foes.

Each enemy hit has a chance to drop loot and a chance to drop gold. When the ability kills a foe this chance is higher, because in Bilgewater, that just makes cents,” said Riot Games.

Nilah the new League of Legends champion

Region Portals of Ixtal in Set 9.5 Horizonbound

Riot Games noted that most of the Ixtal region portals are all about interactions. There are four in total:

Serpentine River

Instead of carousel rounds, players have the ability to vote for what bonus the lobby should get. You can get a component anvil after each voting round.

Ixaocan

Every time players star up 20 units, all players in the lobby gain increasingly valuable loot.

Cardinal Arcology

Riot Games said, “With so much variance in TFT, we’ve seen a desire for simple Portals, and Prismatic Augments (Jayce’s Workshop and The University are two of our most selected Portals).” As a result, the publisher has added Cardinal Arcology portal, which will always offer a Prismatic, Gold, and Silver Augment.

Ryze, Realm Warp: Ixtal

In Ixtal, Ryze covers the ground with a thicket of vines around his current target. After a brief delay, he deals magic damage to enemies within, and knocks enemies airborne in the epicenter of the barbs of vines. Allies who are wrapped in vines (Barkskin) gain armor and magic resistance for a short duration of time.
