Team Spirit Adds Permanently Banned Player Koma As a Streamer

In an unexpected move that has surprised the Dota 2 community, Team Spirit, the champions of The International 10, have announced the signing of Ilya “Illidan” Pivcaev and Kamil “Koma” Biktimirov as streamers to the organization This decision comes despite Koma’s permanent ban from participating in Valve’s Dota 2 tournaments due to cheating and rule violations during the Open Qualifiers for the Dota Pro Circuit 2023: Tour 1.

Team Spirit’s decision to include Koma in their streamer lineup has led to the Dota 2 community raising questions about the organization’s stance on accountability and second chances. While much of the community has had a negative reaction towards the move, others have a more neutral reaction as the organization is only signing the player as a streamer.

The initial ban on Koma and others

In December 2022, Valve, through tournament organizer PGL, permanently banned ten players from participating in its Dota 2 tournaments due to cheating and rule violations during the Open Qualifiers for the Dota Pro Circuit 2023: Tour 1. The players were found to have been engaging in account sharing and impersonating members of other teams in the official games, which are strictly prohibited in any tournaments by Valve.

Koma’s ban, along with nine other players, was permanently banned from all future Valve tournaments, which essentially ended all of their professional Dota 2 careers. The permanent bans served as a clear message from Valve that cheating and unfair play will not be tolerated.

Team Spirit & Koma as a streamer

Team Spirit’s decision to welcome Koma into its streamer family may be an indication of the organization’s belief in providing opportunities for personal growth and redemption. Koma, also known as “aggressive child,” has been a prominent player in Eastern European Dota 2, having represented notable teams like Virtus.Pro, Winstrike Team, and Luna Gaming.

While Koma’s ban from Valve tournaments raised eyebrows throughout the community, Team Spirit appears to be willing to give him a fresh start as a streamer. The organization acknowledges Koma’s talent and potential as a content creator and aims to support him in his new endeavor. Their decision highlights a commitment to helping him improve his streaming content while simultaneously inviting scrutiny from the community.

Team Spirit’s Announcement

Team Spirit’s announcement of Koma as a streamer despite his permanent ban from Valve tournaments marks a surprising and controversial decision. The move raises questions about second chances, accountability, and the possibility of redemption in the esports community. While the community may be against the move taken by Team Spirit, only time will tell whether it was beneficial for the organization or not.
