This Useless Pokémon Is Finally Coming to Pokémon UNITE

Pokémon Unite is a top MOBA that has seen some of the most robust and most capable pocket monsters battling it out. with the likes of Mewtwo, Dragonite, Tyranitar, and so forth, all facing each other in combat. However, the game will soon see a change of pace as one of the most useless Pokémon is finally coming to the game.

Timi Studio and The Pokémon Company International kicked off the year by revealing Magikarp and Gyarados will debut in Pokémon Unite on 25th January 2024. Without further ado, let’s take a look at everything we know about Magikarp in Pokémon Unite.

Magikarp is Coming to Pokémon Unite

In a recent post on Pokémon UNITE’s official X account, the developers confirmed that Magikarp is making his debut in the game. A short preview of the Pokémon’s playstyle was revealed in a new video. The official preview doesn’t show much of the characters’ combat options, only its limited movement capabilities.

Magikarp is a water-type Pokémon that made its debut in Generation One. It resembles a small fish with a reddish-orange color complemented by yellow fins and whiskers. It’s a Pokémon based on carp and carries references to Chinese mythology. Magikarp is known for being one of the weakest in the world of Pokémon, with poor stats and a notably ineffective move called Splash.

The announcement revealed that Magikarp’s iconic Splash attack will be tied to its evolution method. An in-game screenshot shows a new gauge below the health bar, which looks to be linked to the Splash attack. The user interface in the bottom right corner of the screen shows the presence of the move Flail.

Although Magikarp is useless, its evolution transforms it into legendary Gyarados. While there’s still no footage for Gyarados in the game, its debut alongside Magikarp is confirmed. This exciting addition follows the recent introduction of the Sprigatito, Beldum, Metagross, Floragato, and others to the game in December 2023.

The news of Magikarp joining Pokémon Unite has sparked a buzz in the community, with many fans expressing their excitement for the upcoming iconic Pokémon. It’s going to be interesting to see how Magikarp shakes up the game’s dynamics.
