Worlds 2022: Evil Geniuses and DFM Have a Wholesome Moment in All Chat

The final day of Worlds 2022 Play-in group stage saw Evil Geniuses (EG) and DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM) go head-to-head twice. In the first mano-a-mano, DFM came out ahead and during the tie-breaker match, Evil Geniuses emerged triumphant over the Japanese squad. Despite having a long and competitive day on the international stage, the two teams and their players showed mutual respect and love for their opponents in the in-game chat. Evil Geniuses’ Jeong “Impact” Eon-young and Joseph Joon “jojopyun” Pyun were seen interacting with DFM’s Shunsuke “Evi” Murase and  Lee “Yaharong” Chan-ju.

Group A: EG vs DFM recap

In this Group A matchup, Evil Geniuses lost to the Japanese team and had to fight DFM once again in the tie-breaker. However, the North American squad bounced back well and won against DFM in a confident manner and translated this winning momentum to win against LOUD in the second tie-breaker as well. Following the victories, Evil Geniuses locked in the second spot in Group A and will dodge a best-of-five series against Royal Never Give Up (RNG) and take on the winner of the MAD Lions vs Saigon Buffalo matchup. DetonatioN FocusMe is scheduled to play LOUD in a best-of-five series on 3rd October to take on RNG next.

All-chat moments from Worlds 2022

Riot Games’ LoL Esports Twitter account shared the wholesome interaction between Evil Geniuses and DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM). During the first match the two teams played, as the members set foot on the Summoner’s Rift, they had a brief interaction in-game. While the two top-laners Evi and Impact professed their love and respect for each other, EG jojopyun also tried to do the same. He said, “I love you Yaharang” to his lane opponent and got ignored as he spelled Yaharong’s name wrong.

After seeing the silence from the DFM mid-laner, jojopyun corrected the spelling and Evil Geniuses attack-damage carry Muhammed Hasan “Kaori” Şentürk noted that jojopyun was a “fanboy.”

After the game, Yaharong took to Twitter (translated from Japanese) to write, “As soon as the game started, Jojopyun said something Yaharong in the general chat, so I cut him off. I think it’s the secret to winning.

It is always heartwarming to see players get along well despite being foes inside the game. Likewise, we also saw LOUD’s attack-damage carry Diego “Brance” Amaral’s personality shine through as he sported the “bot gap” phrase on his arm against Fnatic.

This year at Worlds 2022 we have seen multiple player interactions and the addition of Champions Queue is only making these interactions better. Apart from the scrims, the players also get to enjoy playing alongside and against each other in the competitive Champions Queue, privy to the best players in North America.
