Cross-play testing CONFIRMED ahead of FIFA 23
As previously reported, cross-play looks set to arrive in FIFA 23!
EA has now confirmed that cross-play testing will take place in FIFA 22, announcing the platforms and game modes that will be available.
Find out everything you need to know about the cross-play announcement below.
Release Date
There is no official start or release date yet, all we know is that the FIFA 22 cross-play test will become available in the “near future”.
Game Modes
Right, let’s dive right in with the biggest question of all, what game modes will be available?
The cross-play test in FIFA 22 will be available in Online Seasons and Online Friendlies.
This means that you can choose to play FIFA 22 with a friend on another platform, or climb the Online Seasons Divisions against players potentially playing on other platforms.
EA has also stated that they are limiting the cross-play game modes to these two “with the aim of reducing the chance for introducing new issues into the game”.
Platforms
Annoyingly, there will not be cross-gen testing, with the cross-play test in FIFA 22 only available for next-gen consoles.
This means players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia will be the only ones able to access the cross-play test.
How to play
Once the cross-play test is activated and you’re in the main menu of FIFA 22, you can find a widget in the bottom right-hand corner that can be opened with the corresponding button prompt, as pictured below.
From here, you can simply follow the button prompt to enable or disable your cross-play test participation.
In this widget, you can also search for friends regardless of their platform, and you can also block and/or mute someone if desired.
You can also control your Cross-play test participation by visiting the Matchmaking Options Settings screen, as pictured below.
It is as simple as playing with a friend online now, but with a couple of extra settings!
